Samburu And Ol Pejeta Conservancy Safari

Safari Overview

A week exploring Samburu and Ol Pejeta Conservancy offers a striking contrast of landscapes and wildlife encounters in northern Kenya. In Samburu, dry country scenery frames sightings of animals rarely seen elsewhere, from Grévy’s zebra to long-necked gerenuks, with evenings spent by the river watching crocodiles stir at dusk. Moving south,

Ol Pejeta combines classic savannah drives with close looks at black rhinos and rescued chimpanzees, alongside thoughtful conversations about conservation and human-wildlife conflict. Each day brings a balance of game drives and quieter moments, whether birdwatching, walking near waterholes, or simply pausing to take in the wild setting that defines Kenya’s safari heartlands.

Safari Highlights

  • Spot rare northern species in Samburu, including Grévy’s zebra and gerenuk
  • Evenings by the river with chances to see crocodiles at close quarters
  • Game drives in Ol Pejeta with black rhinos and rescued chimpanzees
  • Insight into conservation work and human-wildlife coexistence initiatives.

The terrain of acacia woodland and dry plains creates opportunities to spot animals not commonly seen in other regions of Kenya. Return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest before heading out again in the afternoon. In the afternoon, head out on a game drive to explore the area, with good chances of spotting both common and rare wildlife. Later, join a discussion led by your safari guide on the challenges of human-wildlife coexistence in the region. Day 5: Ol Pejeta Conservancy – Full day

Your day begins with an early game drive across the conservancy, where lions, elephants, and rhinos are often seen against the backdrop of Mount Kenya. Ol Pejeta is one of the few places in East Africa where chimpanzees are protected, and visiting their sanctuary adds another layer to the experience.

After returning to camp for lunch, the afternoon offers more time to explore the plains, spotting wildlife that gathers near the waterholes. Serena Sweetwaters Camp blends comfort with a clear view of the surrounding wilderness, and from the deck or lounge you can often watch animals wander in as dusk sets. Dinner is served at camp, rounding off a day immersed in both wildlife and conservation

Guides share insights into the conservancy’s role in protecting endangered species, making each sighting feel connected to a bigger story of conservation.

After lunch at Serena Sweetwaters Camp, the afternoon slows down with time to explore on foot around the camp or simply watch animals arrive at the waterhole just outside.
